Presenting: Jutda
January 1, 2008 Welcome to the Jutda weblog! In this opening post, meet the company, meet me, and get a run-down of the ideas and philosophies that I’ll be carrying under the Jutda name.
Hi there! I’m Ross Poulton - a consultant & developer for a mid-market ERP solution provider. This day job keeps me busy with planning, development, project management, and other such tasks. When I’m not ‘at work’, I spend a significant amount of time working on other projects both independently and together with other talented developers.
Jutda is the glue that will pull these projects together under a single banner.
The Wagiman language, a nearly-extinct language spoken by very few people in the Northern Territory, uses the word ‘Jut-Da’ to mean ‘To Point’ or ‘To Show’. This is the ethos of my new company: We’re aiming to show the way to others, to make life easier through the use of elegant online solutions.
By using elegant technologies, we’re able to create simple solutions for everyday problems. No bells, no whistles, just beautiful outcomes for ugly problems.
I’m a firm believer that technology shouldn’t get in the way. Every person has a different range of talents and a different job to do, and it’s our job as developers to design technology that helps people exploit their talents and get their job done with higher efficiency.
On this blog, I aim to have semi-regular postings on a pretty wide gamut of topics:
- The challenges of being a small business owner
- The trials and tribulations of running a company entirely outside of normal business hours
- Product updates for products released by Jutda
- Technical topics at a non-technical level: Selecting technologies and using technology to simplify life
- Thoughts and ideals relating to design and usability
Depending on how you look at it, that’s a challenging topic list. I’m really looking forward to this journey — I don’t know where it’s going to go, but I’d love for you to join me.
