WhisperGifts: The Way Bridal Registries Should Work

Getting married is a joyous occasion. It’s fun, it’s full of happiness and cheer, and it’s a very loving thing to do.

However the entire wedding industry seems to want to make things complex and expensive. Why is a wedding cake so much more expensive than any other cake? Why are wedding flower bouquets so much more expensive than any other flowers?

Because it is ingrained in us that weddings are expensive. They always have been and they always will be.

Not any more.

As I wrote in a post on my personal blog back in February, the Bride and Groom are not the only ones who get ripped off when it comes to weddings. Wedding guests are often asked to purchase gifts from expensive department stores, with limited brands and prices that may be inflated to capitalise on a captive audience.

So we’ve created WhisperGifts, the online service that lets you easily publish a bridal registry for your guests to browse and select gifts from. However, WhisperGifts is different as it:

  1. Allows your guests to shop at any store they like. Aunty Mary who works for MegaTVCorp can now buy you that 42-inch LCD that you want, without paying department store prices
  2. Allows you to describe the types of items you want, rather than selecting a brand and model
  3. Lets your guests browse for gifts in the comfort of their own home
  4. Lets your guests easily see gifts sorted by category (Kitchenware, furniture, or outdoor living for example), within certain price brackets, or by priority
  5. Can magically e-mail reminder messages to guests before the wedding
  6. Can magically e-mail you a list of guests and their selections just after your wedding, helping with the process of sorting out who purchased what when it comes to writing thank-you notes.
